「s」一文字を一億円で買収

グーグル検索で常にトップに表示されるためにイギリスの旅行会社が「s」一文字買ったというお話。
Cruises.co.uk sold for £560,000 (US$1m) in a sale that sets a record for the sale of a .uk domain name. The purchase by www.CRUISE.co.uk of the plural version of its website from German travel company Nees Reisen, shatters the previous record for a .co.uk domain name set in October 2007 when venture capital firm ASAP Ventures acquired the domain recycle.co.uk for £150,000.
CRUISE.co.ukのドメインを持っているイギリスの旅行代理店が、その複数形のドメインを持っているドイツの旅行の代理店から買収。買収額はイギリスのサイトではこれまでの記録の4倍近い約1億円。
Currently Cruises’ is consistently ranked first on Google, with ‘cruise’ just behind. According to Seamus Conlon, MD of www.CRUISE.co.uk (pictured), he wanted the top positions so that when internet users are searching for cruise deals, reviews or news we are the first port of call.
理由はというと、グーグル検索すると常に複数形の「Cruises」がトップで表示され、単数形の「cruise」はその後に表示されるという。
technologynewsによると、この会社はSeamus Conlon。でも、途方もないというほどの買収でもなさげだ。グーグルの2位が1位を買収するには安い買い物かもしれない。
とろで、このマーケットを実際に作っているのはグーグルのはずだが、グーグルはショバ代に何の関与もしてないのだろうか、良く分からん。
